Details on lining up the overlays for August 21, 1999

Method:  use SOHO/EIT as base to line everything up on, i.e., get shifts relative to these instruments. By comparing lines formed at the same or similar temperatures, we get relative shifts which can be followed back to the reference instruments (marked Result below).

Note, shifts are already included in images linked below.  Also, first instrument in title is the base, second (and third) overlaid in contours.  Shifts are in arcseconds.  You can check out (or run) the program that does the shifts.  You will also need the datafile of idl maps of each instrument's observations.

These overlays are primarily for lining up purposes.  Further overlays are also available.
 

1) line up TRACE 195 Angstroms with EIT 195 Angstroms

Same line line-up and Result: TRACE needs to be shifted [1,-4] w.r.t. EIT
2) line up TRACE 171 Angstroms with CDS Mg10
Similar temperature line-up:  CDS needs to be shifted [-3,14] w.r.t. TRACE
3) line up EIT 195 Angstroms with CDS Mg 10
Result: From 1) and 2), CDS needs to be shifted a total of [-2,10] w.r.t. EIT
4) line up SXT Al Mg and CDS Fe 19
Similar temperature line-up: CDS needed to be shifted [15,25] w.r.t. SXT.
5) line up TRACE 284 Angstroms with both SXT Al Mg and CDS Fe19 and Mg10
Test: from 2) and 4), SXT is shifted a total of [-18,-11] w.r.t. TRACE.  Also we show here CDS  Fe19 and Mg10, both shifted [-3,14] w.r.t. TRACE, in order to help demonstrate the different parts of the sigmoid that SXT and TRACE 284 are picking up (also see 6 which overlays the same contours on EIT 195).
6) line up EIT 195 Angstroms with both SXT Al Mg and CDS Fe19 and Mg10
Result: From 4) and 3) SXT needs to be shifted [-17,-15] w.r.t. EIT
7) line up CHIP He 10830 with CDS He1
Similar temperature line-up: CHIP needed to be shifted [-4,-17] w.r.t. CDS
8) line up EIT 195 Angstroms with CHIP He 10830 and CDS He1
Result from 7) and 3): CHIP needs to be shifted [-6,-7] w.r.t. EIT
9) line up EIT 304 and PICS H-alpha
Similar temperature line-up and Result: PICS needed to be shifted [9,-3] w.r.t. EIT
10) line up BBSO H-alpha with PICS H-alpha
Same line line-up: BBSO needed to be shifted [-2,-2] w.r.t. PICS, so Result from 10) and 9): BBSO needs to be shifted [7,-5] w.r.t. EIT
11) line up BBSO H-alpha and MDI
Assuming MDI and EIT are co-aligned, BBSO is also shifted [7,-5] w.r.t. MDI
12) Also show MDI overlaid by BBSO H-alpha

13) line up PICS H-alpha and MDI

Assuming MDI and EIT are co-aligned, PICS is also shifted [9,-3] w.r.t. MDI
12) Also show MDI overlaid by PICS H-alpha

13) Finally compare PICS H-alpha and CHIP He 10830

CHIP should be shifted [-15,-4] w.r.t. PICS
