Peter Schmitt

March 17, 2008

Five days after getting married, Pete started working at HAO as a graduate research assistant. Initially, he primarily worked on data visualization using CISM_DX (http://www.bu.edu/cism/cismdx/) and learning more about space weather. Pete transitioned to a full-time software engineer position at HAO in January 2008 after obtaining a Master's degree in applied mathematics at the University of Colorado at Boulder.

Pete focuses on enhancing a next-generation coupled magnetosphere-ionosphere-thermosphere (CMIT) model and post-processing tools. His primary goal is to make the model and its tools more easily accessible to a larger community of scientists interested in space weather modeling. His day-to-day tasks include implementing automated testing functionality, code optimization and enhancing post-processing and visualization tools.

Pete, a Chicago native, obtained an undergraduate degree in Mathematics and Computer Graphics from DePaul University in Chicago in 2005. He moved to Boulder with who is now his wife to attend graduate school. Pete misses the culture and urban living from a city as unique as Chicago, but loves life in the Boulder area.

When he's not working, Pete may be found cycling, back country skiing, running or playing ice hockey. Pete can be found on the second floor of CG-1 in room 2618. He can be reached at 303-497-1592 or by email: schmitt@ucar.edu.
