Dear colleague/SPW4 participant:

We wish to alert you to some important dates regarding workshop registration and activities.

HOTEL RESERVATION DEADLINE: The Millenium Hotel will accept special-rate reservations for SPW4 only through AUGUST 31. Please go to their reservation page ( the link and instructions can be found at http://www.hao.ucar.edu/spw4/hotels.html ) and book your room. If you would like to share the room (and costs) with a colleague or accompanying person, the Millenium is offering double rooms at the same special rate.

Note: Transportation to and from hotel and the workshop will be provided on Mon., Tues., Thu., and Fri.

REGISTRATION DEADLINE:

We are inviting you to register for the workshop using the on-line registration form ( http://www.hao.ucar.edu/spw4/reg.html ), in case you have not done it yet. The deadline for registering on line is MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 12. Registrations received after September 12 will be subject to the late registration fee of $325.

SOCIAL ACTIVITIES:

We are trying to make a head count for people who would like to participate to some of the recreational activities we will be offering during the workshop. Please let us know by FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 2 if you wish to participate in any, all, or none of the activities listed below, by sending an e-mail to SPW4 Recreational Activities. Please indicate in the e-mail how many people will be paricipating (eg yourself + spouse=2) and, in which activities you plan to participate.

Monday, September 19: Reception and light buffet

We will be giving a reception at the Boulder Beer Company (light buffet and good local beer, a short walk away from the Conference place) the first night of the workshop. It is covered by the participation cost, but we still need to know how many will be attending to reserve the place ahead of time.

Tuesday, September 20: Major League Baseball

For the night of Tuesday, we are proposing an all-American experience: a visit to the Coors Field in Denver for a major league baseball game between the Colorado Rockies and the San Diego Padres. Interested people will have to arrange their own trip to the stadium (we will provide bus information on how to get there), and for paying for the entrance ticket. Let us know if you are interested, so that we can make and advance purchase of a block of tickets.

Wednesday, September 21: Excursion to Rocky Mountain National Park

The main event is an excursion/hike to the Rocky Mountain National Park, which will take the whole day of Wednesday. The departure by bus is tentatively set for 7:30am from the Millenium Hotel (the hotel that we indicated to the participants). The hike to Flattop Mountain and Hallett Peak will take something between 5 and 6 hours, and might not be for all. For other participants who would want a less strenuous outing, we offer a limited bus tour of the Park followed by ample time in Estes Park for lunch and some tourism shopping. In order to organize the bus service to the Park, we need to know how many of the participants are interested in either the hike or the visit to the Park. Please let us know if you would like to take part to this event.

*Thursday, September 22: Banquet at the Red Lion in Boulder

The night of Thursday we will have our social banquet at the Red Lion restaurant in Boulder. The cost of the dinner is fully covered for the registered participants. The cost of participation for accompanying guests is $50. Please let us know if you are planning to attend, and if you will be bringing a guest. Please also specify if you prefer a vegetarian menu.
