Best Practices for User Management and Registration in Virtual Observatories.

The vast realm of security technologies and architectures can be an overwhelming experience for developers, investigators and organizations seeking to deploy access portals to resources in their communities. Based on our experience, we have obtained a set of heuristics as best practices for deploying portals, applications, etc. In this presentation, we cover the fundamentals of encryption and security protocols as well as standard technologies, such as SSL, for implementing security frameworks. We seek to provide a basic understanding required to deploy, manage and serve members in virtual observatories.
