Workshops

CSAC has contributed to the realization of several international workshops, as summarized here.

Azimuth Ambiguity Workshops

Resolution of an ambiguity in the orientation of an inferred magnetic field vector is a topic of much current interest in solar physics. CSAC has facilitated the study of this problem by initiating and sponsoring workshops.

HAO/NCAR/CSAC, along with the SDO/HMI program, sponsored the first Azimuth Ambiguity Workshop at NCAR on 26-27 September 2005. That resulted in the publication of a paper summarizing the results (Metcalf et al. 2006). A follow-on workshop was held by CoRA/NWRA, 4-6 October 2006.

The Fourth Solar Polarization Workshop (SPW4)

Through CSAC, HAO/NCAR sponsored a major international scientific workshop in September 2005: the Fourth Solar Polarization Workshop (SPW4). Attended by over 100 scientists, the majority of whom were from outside the USA, this workshop was a success by any measure. The workshop resulted in a published volume of the proceedings:

Casini, R., B. W. Lites, 2006: Solar polarization 4. Solar Polarization 4, ASP Conf. Series, R. Casini and B. W. Lites, Ed., Boulder, CO, US, Astronomical Society of the Pacific

The High Altitude Observatory (HAO) is a division within the Earth and Sun Systems Laboratory (ESSL) at the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR). NCAR is managed by the University Corporation for Atmospheric Research (UCAR) and receives substantial funding from the National Science Foundation (NSF).© 2008, UCAR | PrivacyPolicy | Terms of Use | Webmaster
