HAO Fellowships & Appointments

Helpful Visitor Information

The Visitor Program of the High Altitude Observatory aims at enhancing scientific and educational contacts between HAO and the national and international solar and solar-terrestrial communities. The program provides financial support for undergraduate and graduate students, post-graduate researchers, as well as established researchers seeking sabbatical leave opportunities.

The High Altitude Observatory (HAO) of the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) invites applications for one-year and short-term visitor appointments. These appointments are available to both new and established Ph.D. scientists who are interested in the opportunity to participate in theoretical, experimental, observational, and interpretive studies in solar physics, solar-terrestrial physics, and related astrophysics. The aim of the program is to increase our understanding of physical systems relevant to the Sun and their effects on the earth by promoting interactions between highly qualified researchers in a supportive, enthusiastic environment. Scientists with strong backgrounds in physics (experimental or theoretical) who have not previously worked in these scientific areas, but are interested in exploring new opportunities are encouraged to apply.
