Printing Tips

Please see our Printer List page for HAO printers and their specifications.

• Printing to the copiers from HAO Unix workstations:

The printer/copiers can be used for printing multiple copies of documents. The printer/copiers can print PS, TEXT, and PDF and other file formats using the lp command. They use a set of different options than the regular lp commands however. If you need a complete listing of the printer options for the printer/copiers, you can send the following print job to one of the copiers. Be advised that if you decide to print out the options for the printer/copiers, it produces a large number of pages.

    lp -d haocopy2 -o OPTIONS filename

Here are some examples of how to print to the Xerox printer/copiers:

lp -d haocopy2 -o DuplexNoTumble filename (portrait duplex printing)
lp -d haocopy2 -o Landscape filename (landscape printing)
    lp -d haocopy2 -o Tabloid filename (11" x 17" page printing)

• Printing from HAO LINUX Systems using the lp Command:

The lp commands work on the Linux systems using the CUPS (Common Unix Printing System).
The URL for CUPS User Manual is "http://www.cups.org/sum.html".

Below are some examples of sending print jobs to our HP printers from our LINUX systems:

lp -o sides=two-sided-long-edge filename (duplex printing)
lp -o landscape filename (landscape printing)
